Extensive Enrollment Package
Upon enrollment, you will receive a nice binder filled with information on how to
set up the program including student passwords, information
on how the program works, all needed information to use the program, and information about our group
discount with the Home School Legal Defense Association.
Award-Winning Curriculum
Students do their work on the computer each day and upload it to our computer via the
internet. Your students will be using the award-winning Switched-On Schoolhouse
curriculum. It won the 1998 Practical Homeschooling Reader's Choice Software Award
for Best Curriculum. Five core subjects are available: Bible, English, math,
science, and social studies plus electives. Do class work as fast or as slow as you
like--there is no time limit.Work may be done at one sitting, or spread through the
day. Older students can work during the day and do schoolwork in the evenings and on
weekends. Placement tests ensure that the student is working at the appropriate
level. The Sycamore Tree Online School is available anywhere in the world where
there is Internet access. A combination of traditional curriculum and the online
school may be used. Additionally, there is access to a message board where your
student can share ideas with other Sycamore Tree students.
Professional Educational Guidance
Guidance is provided by email. A credentialed teacher is on staff during office hours to
answer any questions you may have.
Flexible School Year
We have a flexible schedule--enrollments are accepted at any time during the school
year--even for high schoolers.
Maintenance of Cumulative Records
Cumulative files are kept for each student. We will send for records from your
child's previous school (optional for elementary students) upon request, and send them on with your accumulated
Sycamore Tree records as your child moves into another school environment.
Year-end Standardized Testing and Evaluation
The Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills is provided to all students enrolled in our online
program at a 50% discount. It will be evaluated by a professional scoring service or
trained school staff. Performance results are mailed to parents and a copy will become
part of your child's permanent record.
Student Body Cards
Each student receives a nice photo ID student body card identifying him/her as a student
in The Sycamore Tree School. This is useful for obtaining student discounts, and also
gives the child a feeling of "belonging." In addition, we send birthday cards to
all our students!
Catalog Discount
All enrolled families receive a 10% discount on all catalog items that begin with a
letter.
Legal Insurance
A group plan with a discount group rate is provided through Home School Legal Defense
Association. This organization provides support and legal aid when public personnel
question your homeschooling. It is strongly recommended that you join this group although
it is not required.
High School Diploma
Upon completion of the high school program and demonstrated performance on proficiency
tests, the student receives a diploma, printed in gold. Students with The Sycamore Tree
diploma have attended many colleges, universities, and entered the armed forces. All high
school classes must be documented, either by us or by the previous school. Credit for
classes taken at local Junior Colleges may be applied to the high school graduation
requirements. We also give credit for approved work experience.
High School Transcript
Upon graduation or transfer, The Sycamore Tree will provide a transcript. This transcript
can be sent to public and private schools or colleges.
The Sycamore Tree Home School Program and Online School are both fully accredited.
